Chimaraoke Obinna Akuchie – Community First. Transparency. No Family is Left Behind.

Dear Neighbour,

I am passionate about making a difference in our community, and I believe that strong leadership starts with listening, understanding, and taking action. My diverse background in engineering, volunteerism, and supporting people with disability has shaped my ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and I am committed to serving Ward 14 with integrity, transparency and purpose.

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Instrumentation Engineering and am currently in my final year of a degree in Professional Art in Human Services at Athabasca University. As Vice President External of the Athabasca University Students’ Union, I advocate for students’ rights, foster engagement, and create opportunities for student voices to be heard. This experience has reinforced my commitment to advocacy, collaboration, and ensuring that people have access to the resources they need to succeed.

Beyond academics, my volunteer work has been at the heart of my commitment to community service. As Director of Volunteers at the Calgary Legacy Community Association, I help organize local initiatives that bring neighbors together, enhance community resources, and create opportunities for meaningful engagement. I also volunteer with the Calgary Igbo Community Association (CICA) at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness by providing meals, essentials, and a sense of community. These experiences have shown me firsthand how collective action can create lasting, positive change.

In addition to my community work, I am the proud owner of VEROROSE INC., a disability agency that I am building. I also work at an addiction prevention center, where I assist individuals with disabilities and mental health conditions. This role has deepened my understanding of the challenges faced by many in our community especially those struggling with accessibility, mental health support, and affordable housing. It has reinforced my belief that every person deserves to feel valued, supported, and empowered to live with dignity.

I am running for Ward 14 Councilor because I believe in Community First, Transparency, and ensuring that No Family is Left Behind. Every resident deserves to have their voice heard, their needs prioritized, and their concerns addressed with honesty and action.

As your Councilor, my focus will be on ensuring that all community members have access to the support and resources they need to thrive. I will work to build a community that is not only inclusive but also one that fosters opportunity for everyone, whether through improved mental health support, affordable housing, or creating more spaces for community engagement.

This campaign is not about me, it’s about us, our families, our businesses, and the future we want to build together. I am committed to working tirelessly for the residents of Ward 14, ensuring that our community thrives, our concerns are heard, and our city government truly represents the people.

Together, let’s make Ward 14 and our city stronger, safer, and a place where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
