Chima Akuchie – Community First. Transparency. No Family Left Behind.
Dear Neighbour,
I am excited to share this with you: I am running for City Council in Ward 14. This decision comes from a deep passion to serve and a commitment to make lasting change. I believe leadership starts with listening, understanding, and acting in the best interests of the people. For years, I have nurtured this dream; a dream grounded in service to the community and my desire to create real impact. My background in engineering, volunteer work, and advocacy for people with disabilities has taught me how to connect with people from all walks of life. I am ready to serve Ward 14 with the same integrity, openness and purpose that have guided me so far.
Volunteering and community service have always been a big part of my life. I have taken on several roles in our neighbourhood, always trying to serve with compassion and excellence. I have a diploma in instrumentation engineering from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), and I’m set to graduate with bachelors of science in human services from Athabasca University. I also serve as the Vice President External of the Students’ Union (AUSU), where I advocate for student rights, build engagement, and ensure students are heard. That work has only deepened my belief in advocacy and collaboration. In addition, I am the Director of Volunteerism at the Calgary Legacy Community Association (CLCA). I help organize events that bring neighbours together, build local resources, and strengthen our sense of belonging. I also volunteer with the Calgary Igbo Community Association (CICA) at the Calgary Drop-In Centre, where we support people experiencing homelessness by providing them with food, essentials, and encouragement. To promote a more welcoming community, I founded VEROROSE INC, a support agency for people with disabilities. I also work at an addiction prevention center, helping individuals with disabilities and mental health challenges rebuild their lives. At Saint Catherine Elementary School, I volunteer to support my children’s education and development. These experiences have given me insight into the real challenges we face in Ward 14, especially around affordable housing, rezoning, accessibility, infrastructure, and community safety. I believe every resident deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. I am proudly running as an independent candidate with no political affiliation because I believe our city should be run in the best interests of its residents. As your neighbour, I have felt the same frustrations about blanket rezoning that ignores the realities of our communities. It has led to property tax hikes, infrastructure strain, and a loss of neighbourhood character and camaraderie. If elected, I will work to repeal these decisions and push for policies that truly serve us.
I want to serve our Ward 14 because I am passionate about community, transparency, trust, and no family should be left behind. I am a husband, father, and Knight of the Catholic Church. I believe in service, compassion, and listening with empathy. Every resident of Ward 14 deserves to be heard. You deserve access to basic infrastructure, a safe community, and leaders who act in your best interest. That is what I will advocate for as your councillor.
This campaign is about all of us; our families, our businesses, and our future. I am committed to working hard for Ward 14, making sure our voices count and our city works for everyone.
Together, let’s make Ward 14 stronger, safer, and a place where everyone can thrive.
