Policies and Priorities

Blanket Rezoning and Urban Planning

We need a balanced approach to zoning and urban planning that promotes smart, sustainable growth while respecting the character and voice of our neighborhoods. Blanket rezoning has caused deep frustration across Ward 14 and Calgary at large. Residents feel excluded from key decisions that impact their neighborhoods, with many raising concerns about increased density without proper infrastructure, traffic congestion, and the loss of green spaces.

I will push for the repeal of blanket rezoning policies and advocate for responsible development that truly works for the residents of Ward 14 and the City of Calgary, development that is both practical and considerate of our community’s needs.

We must put an end to one-size-fits-all planning that ignores the people who actually live in these communities. As your Councilor, I will champion community-led development, demand genuine public consultation, and ensure that growth benefits residents, not just developers.

Safety and Security

The safety of our families and neighborhoods must always be a priority. I will work closely with local law enforcement to increase police presence, support community safety programs, and ensure that our streets remain safe for everyone, from our children to our seniors.

Currently, Calgary is not meeting its police recruitment targets, and that affects the quality and responsiveness of service in our communities. I will advocate for better funding and stronger recruitment strategies by partnering with provincial government to ensure that our city has the resources it needs to hire, train, and retain qualified officers.

Safety is not just about enforcement, it’s about presence, prevention, and partnership. I will work to build those bridges and restore a sense of trust and security in Calgary.

Property Tax Reform

Property taxes should not be a burden on hardworking Calgarians. In the past four years, property tax rates have risen by nearly 20%, placing a significant financial strain on families, seniors, small business owners, and first-time homeowners, many of whom are already grappling with inflation and the rising cost of living. This level of increase is simply unsustainable and unfair, especially when residents feel they’re paying more but getting less in return, whether it’s in infrastructure, public safety, or community services. We need to reassess how property taxes are structured, making sure they are transparent, accountable, and equitably distributed.

As your Councilor, I will advocate for a comprehensive tax review, push for better fiscal management at City Hall, and fight to ensure that essential services are funded without overburdening taxpayers. Calgarians deserve a city budget that reflects value, fairness, and common sense.

Traffic and Infrastructure

Traffic congestion has become a real problem, and it’s time for action. I will push for improvements to our roads, more efficient public transit options, and better pedestrian infrastructure to keep everyone moving safely. A connected community is a thriving community, and we must invest in infrastructure that supports all modes of transportation.

School Infrastructure

As our community grows, we need to ensure that our children have access to quality education in modern, well-equipped schools. I will work with provincial leaders to support the development of more schools in Ward 14 to accommodate our expanding population and ensure that every child has the space and resources they need to succeed. Beyond building schools, we must also address the critical shortage of teachers. The Alberta Teachers' Association has indicated that over one-third of Alberta’s school divisions are planning to reduce teaching positions, with more than 250 roles being eliminated, even as student enrollment is expected to increase by approximately 26,000 students in the upcoming school year.

This trend is unsustainable. As your Councilor, I will work closely with the provincial government to address this challenge, advocating for better funding for public education, more aggressive recruitment strategies, and support systems to retain qualified teachers. A growing community like ours must be matched with the right investments in our children’s future.

Transportation Improvements

Beyond public transit, we need safer roads and better transportation options for everyone. Whether it’s fixing traffic bottlenecks, improving pedestrian safety, or expanding transit services, I’ll ensure that transportation improvements remain a priority.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

Above all, I am committed to listening to YOU. I want to hear your concerns, your ideas, and your hopes for our community. Together, we can create a plan that reflects the needs of Ward 14’s residents. I will always be accessible, open, and transparent in my work as your Councilor.
